Marvin Replacement Windows
Marvin designs their products using a wide range of materials for both interiors and exteriors. So even if you are undecided about which material to go with, chances are high there is a Marvin replacement window that is right for your home.
Marvin offers three distinct material types— wood, extruded aluminum, and Ultrex® fiberglass— each with its own unique qualities.
Keep reading to see how each material compares to one another.
Wood
Known for their beauty and traditional look, wood windows are available in a variety of natural finishes that can add character inside and outside your home. Marvin offers a wide selection of wood windows, including four premium millwork options and seven unique stains.
While most wood products are finished to some extent, Marvin takes extra steps to ensure their wood windows live up to the brand’s reputation. Before assembly, each individual piece of wood is sanded, conditioned, stained and oven-cured. Then, these finished pieces are clear-coated, sanded, and clear-coated a second time. The unique multi-step process creates a more durable wood and ensure consistency across every Marvin replacement window.
In general, wood is a premium material that can offer a classic look. However, it also requires annual maintenance and cleaning in order to maintain its quality. So if you’re looking for something that looks great and doesn’t require attention, you might want to consider alternatives — such as Ultrex or extruded aluminum.
Marvin uses only high quality materials (including pine, mahogany, western red cedar and more) and designs with people in mind at every step. This process undeniably produces a better product.
Extruded Aluminum
Typically, extruded aluminum is used on window and door exteriors to minimize maintenance by providing additional protection. Unlike all-wood products, windows and doors with extruded aluminum on their exteriors do not require annual attention or repainting.
In general, aluminum can either be extruded or roll-formed. However, the difference in strength between these can be very extreme. Since Marvin is committed to exceeding industry standards at every chance, it is no surprise that Marvin replacement windows are made with extruded.
Extruded aluminum is preferred for cladding because of its strength and weather resistance. In fact, Marvin’s extruded aluminum finish can maintain its original shape and stands up to the elements years after installation—protected by our 20-year warranty.
Ultrex
When it comes to strength and durability, Marvin’s Ultrex fiberglass is nearly unbeatable. In fact, compared to other materials, Ultrex is the strongest window framing material in the replacement industry. Its innate strength and long-term durability make Marvin replacement windows a go-to for anyone interested in fiberglass.
Of course, fiberglass is an amazingly sturdy material in general. However, just one square inch of Marvin’s patented, state-of-the-art Ultrex fiberglass can support up to 34,000 pounds, making it more than eight times stronger than traditional vinyl. This allows Marvin replacement windows to be built with narrower frames — enhancing the views inside any home.
As for color, Ultrex uses an acrylic finish that is fade-resistant and virtually maintenance-free. With a finish that’s 3 times thicker than competitive options, Ultrex resists chipping, denting or peeling. Pluts, it does not leak, corrode or rot, and it resists expanding and contracting in temperature swings.
These properties make Marvin Ultrex fiberglass one of the strongest and most desirable on the market.
Wood-Ultrex
For those looking to balance classic beauty with modern, engineered strength, blending wood with fiberglass is a perfect solution. If you’re already sold on Marvin replacement windows, then the Marvin Elevate Casement is a product for you to consider.
Previously known as the Integrity Wood-Ultrex Casement, this Wood-Fiberglass hybrid from Marvin is a simple option for letting in light and air flow. Its warm wood interior delivers timeless beauty, while its resilient, long-lasting fiberglass exterior will stay strong in even the toughest conditions.
